Itinerary
Day 1: Guided tour from Cusco to 5 Inca archaeological sites and return to Cusco
We will pick you up from your hotel between 8:30 and 9:00 AM to visit Tipón, an impressive Inca archaeological site. You can admire the royal chambers of Inca Wiraqocha, an outstanding example of imperial architecture with its advanced hydraulic engineering set in a beautiful mountain landscape. Despite the passage of time, the canals and liturgical fountains dedicated to water remain intact. Tipón is famous for its terraces and irrigation channels, and it was an important ceremonial center supplied by underground water from Mount Pachatusan.
After this, we will continue to the ancient settlement of Pikillacta. This pre-Inca site was an important center of worship and administration for the great Wari culture. Pikillacta has over 700 structures; some walls reach almost 12 meters (about 39 feet) in height. Across from Pikillacta lies the beautiful Huacarpay Lagoon, home to many species of local fauna.
The next tourist attraction is Andahuaylillas, a small town 37 km (about 23 miles) southeast of Cusco. Its pleasant climate, thanks to the surrounding mountains, makes it a colonial-era picturesque city. The most extravagant church in the Americas was built there, popularly known as the “Sistine Chapel of America.” Inside, you can admire paintings from the famous Cusco School, a majestic piano, numerous canvases from the Cusco Academy, exquisite silverwork, and Baroque altars. End of the tour in Cusco: We will finish at the Plaza de Armas, the heart of the historic center.
