Itinerary
Day 1: Arrival in Cusco and the visit to 5 archaeological sites near Cusco
Flight to Cusco, we recommend booking an early morning flight to Cusco. Upon arrival at Cusco’s airport, our team will be there to greet and assist you with your transfer to your hotel located in the city center. We recommend resting at your hotel for a couple of hours and having a light lunch before joining our guided tour that will introduce you to the local history and Inca culture.
This fascinating tour begins with passenger pick-up at 1:00 pm, followed by a visit to the majestic Temple of Qoricancha, known as the “Temple of the Sun,” where you will explore its history and spiritual significance. The route continues to the outskirts of the city to visit the imposing fortress of Sacsayhuaman, famous for its precisely carved volcanic stones, and the mysterious ceremonial site of Qenqo, with its underground passages. The exploration also includes a visit to Puca Pucara, a “Red Fortress” considered to be an Inca military and administrative complex, strategically located with panoramic views. Finally, the tour ends at Tambomachay or “Temple of Water,” a beautiful site that demonstrates the advanced hydraulic knowledge of the Incas with its fountains and crystal-clear water channels. We return to the Plaza de Armas in Cusco as our final stop.
Day 2: From Cusco to the Sacred Valley of the Incas & Train to Aguas Calientes
Prepare for a morning full of discoveries. At 7:00 AM, we will pick you up from your hotel to begin our exploration. In just one hour, we will arrive in Chinchero, an Andean gem that will surprise you with its rich Inca history, important archaeological sites, and charming colonial architecture, including a 17th-century church. Next, we will head to Moray, a unique archaeological site. Discover how the Incas used its impressive circular terraces, with their different microclimates, as an advanced agricultural research center.
Then, we will return to the small Andean town of Maras and head towards the Salt Mines or ‘Salineras,’ ancient mines where local families extract salt using ancestral techniques. Afterward, we head to Urubamba to enjoy our buffet lunch (approximately 45 minutes). After lunch, we will depart for the town of Ollantaytambo, where we will explore the Ollantaytambo archaeological park, an ancient Inca fortress designed to surveillance and defend the valley entrance. From there, we will take our train for a 2-hour journey to Aguas Calientes. Upon arrival at the train station in Aguas Calientes, a member of our team will meet you to accompany you to your hotel, which is a short 8 to 10-minute walk away. Later, your guide will meet with you to provide details for your excursion the next day – the big day to visit the Sanctuary of Machu Picchu.
Day 3: From Aguas Calientes to the Machu Picchu Sanctuary & Return to Cusco
We will start very early in the morning from Aguas Calientes. Pickup time from your hotel is around 5:00 AM to 7:00 AM (Time coordinated the day before departure, according to your Machu Picchu entry ticket schedule). Our staff will take you to the bus station for a 30-minute ride to Machu Picchu. The guided tour in the Inca citadel will last approximately 2.5 hours, during which you will learn about Inca history and visit the most important areas (The route depends on the circuit purchased, subject to availability of circuits 1, 2, or 3). If you have booked an additional hike, such as Huayna Picchu or Machu Picchu Mountain, you will have time to do it and explore the site independently.
In the afternoon, you will take the bus back to Aguas Calientes. From there, you will board the train back to Ollantaytambo, where transportation will be waiting to take you back to Cusco.
Day 4: From Cusco to Humantay Lake return to Cusco
Between 3:40 and 4:00 AM, our transportation will pick you up from your hotel to begin our journey to Mollepata (approx. 3 hours from Cusco), where we will enjoy a delicious buffet breakfast.
Our journey continues to Soraypampa, the starting point for our hike. From there, we’ll enjoy beautiful scenery with spectacular views as we hike for approximately one hour to reach Humantay Lake. The hike is steep, but renting a horse is possible if the altitude is challenging. At Humantay Lake, you’ll have plenty of time to explore and take photos.
After visiting Humantay Lake, we’ll begin the hike back down (approx. 1.5 hours). Then, we’ll take our transportation back to Mollepata. We will stop for about an hour to enjoy a delicious and varied buffet lunch. Afterward, we will begin the two-hour journey back to Cusco. The tour concludes in the Plaza de Armas (main square) of Cusco’s historic center around sunset.
Day 5: From Cusco to Vinicunca Rainbow Mountain return to Cusco
Get ready for an early start – adventure awaits! Between 3:50 and 4:00 AM, we will pick you up from your accommodation in Cusco and begin our exciting 2-hour journey towards Cusipata. We will make a strategic stop in the picturesque town of Cusipata. Here, we’ll recharge with a delicious breakfast to prepare us for the hike. After about an hour and a half drive, we will arrive at the starting point of our unforgettable 2-hour hike towards the majestic Rainbow Mountain.
During the hike, we will witness spectacular Andean landscapes adorned with towering mountains and snow-capped peaks. Keep an eye out for llamas and alpacas grazing in their natural habitat! Upon reaching the summit, you will have free time to marvel at the mountain’s unique color palette, take photos, and simply enjoy this gift of nature.
After enjoying the panoramic views, we will begin the one-hour descent back to where our transport awaits to take us back to Cusipata. Here, we will enjoy a varied and comforting buffet lunch. Finally, a 2-hour trip back to the city of Cusco. We will arrive in Cusco in the late afternoon, around 5:30 PM. Our tour will conclude near the iconic Plaza de Armas, in the heart of the Historic Center.
